Hidde Van Schie

Hidde van Schie (1978) made his first appearance in the theatre show Shopping & Fucking by Toneelgroep de Trust in 1997, and then graduated as a painter from the Willem de Kooning academy in 2001. Since then he has been working on a multi-disciplinary oeuvre consisting of drawings, collages, sculptures and paintings. His compositions of wild jungles, hairy giants and crying birds are painted with supple gestures, in a characteristic style and palette. In his visual work he creates a tragi-comic universe that combines elements and influences from high and low culture.
In addition to his visual work he is a versatile musician. In 2013 he made his debut as a singer-songwriter with the release of The Mirror & The Razorblade / Dusty Diamond Eyes.
For his guest room at DRUUM Hidde van Schie created a large light-installation. Inspired by his theatrical experiences and his love for ordinary magic the artist chose funfair lights to illuminate the room. Six aluminium light-elements of 3 meter long run across the ceiling and together form an electric rainbow. The moving lights create spectacular light effects in the room. Come and enjoy a romantic night underneath the flickering lights and enjoy the rooms little terrace.
